Character Background
• History: Wiki!
• Core Relationships:
Buffy: Buffy and Faith share a very deep and complicated connection, that both of them seek out and resent in equal measure. Due to the fact that they were both Slayers, a role that is supposed to be taken in complete isolation, Faith had a deeper understanding of what it was like that somewhat unsettled Buffy at first. They got over their initial tension and became friends but as Faith stuck around she started resenting the way that she and Buffy were treated with completely different attitudes by their watcher and Buffy’s friends. In Faith’s mind, Buffy had a good mother, a watcher that clearly cares deeply for her, and friends that would do anything for her, while Faith had none of the above, and was mostly being treated as backup.
Their relationship became considerably more strained after Faith began killing people for the mayor, culminating in Faith trying to force Buffy to kill her in order to save Angel, because Buffy loves Angel and also killed him and damned him to hell prior to Faith’s arrival so that she could save the world. Faith romanticizes the idea of dying by Buffy’s hand and continues trying to get Buffy to give up on her and finish her off. It is more or less entirely canon that Faith was deeply in love with Buffy and as much as she wanted to be her, she also desperately wanted Buffy to accept her as an equal and to love her back.
Angel: Angel saw something of a kindred spirit in Faith after she was spiralling, and tried to reach out to her and help her accept that she’d done wrong and that all she could do now was try to be better. It’s implied at a few points that this would have worked if the Watcher’s Council hadn’t intervened and tried to have her arrested, and sure enough about a year later when Faith’s burnt every other bridge, she goes after Angel and signs up for a job to kill him with the intention of forcing Angel to put her down as a broken evil person who is unfixable, but Angel refuses and helps her to the best of his ability, taking her in when she has nowhere else to go, even if she ultimately decides to turn herself in.
After everything she did, Angel’s really the only friend that Faith has left, and he visits her to try to guide her as she strives for redemption.
The Mayor: Faith’s relationship with The Mayor is somewhat hard to define but the easiest way to sum it up would be that their relationship is paternal and genuinely loving, as well as the biggest corruptive influence in Faith’s life. The Mayor is genuinely evil, but he’s affable, and he tries to be as nice to people as he can, even his enemies. Faith signs up to join him in a moment of desperate self destruction and unlike the rest of the cast, the Mayor offers constant praise and affection and never compares her to Buffy because he never really cared about Buffy beyond her being a threat.
This love coming from someone who is evil and corrupt leads Faith to dig herself deeper because he offers her the affection and care that she has literally never gotten in her life. This doesn’t stop her from seeking her own death, as she still hates herself, and he ends up somewhat encouraging it after she wakes up from her coma by telling her that there’s no place left for her in the world now that he’s gone.
Character Personality Through Key Moments
(2+) Positive Experiences:
Faith is resourceful. Faith is considerably more street smart than her fellow slayer, even if she’s lacking in the booksmarts. She knows how to get what she wants, using both manipulation and intimidation as appropriate, and she uses it to survive. She broke out of jail on her own, revealing that she was only ever there by choice and evaded both the Watcher’s Council and the police for months. And after accidentally killing the deputy mayor, Faith disposes of the body and drops it in the bottom of the bay.
Faith is charismatic. Despite her violent tendencies and even once she’s fully given into them, Faith still carries herself in a very confident and assertive manner. Even though she’s deeply insecure she still comes across as cool and in control almost all the time, and when things get a bit dicier in Season 7, a lot of the potentials looked to her for leadership, and even despite her tenuous past with them, Angel’s team quickly fall in line with her direction once she breaks out to help them stop Angelus.
(2+) Negative Experiences:
Faith is angry. She has a habit of acting upon her rage and the negative feelings she keeps built up inside and lashing out at people around her. She has severe trust issues and if she thinks her trust has been violated she will react quickly and harshly. She has a habit of abandoning what’s smart or practical if she’s been distracted by her anger, like beating vampires to death instead of staking them quickly and efficiently, or threatening to kill Willow after Willow thoroughly dresses her down with a “Reason-You-Suck” speech, even though she needed Willow alive.
Faith is deeply self destructive. Faith is filled with a profound self loathing and will do anything she can to sabotage herself from being happy because she doesn’t actually want to be happy. Her reaction to someone trying to reach out to her and tell her that she’s not as bad a person as she thinks she is is to try and one-up her heinousness by doing something awful to them or someone they love. Xander claims that he knows her and knows that she’s not a bad person so she assaults him. Wesley (the man who tried to have her imprisoned) says that he wants to help her so she tortures him. Buffy defends her and tries to make amends in Season 4 and Faith attacks her and holds her mother hostage. Even in more minor ways, her go-to response when she’s feeling particularly empty is to try to sleep with men she clearly has absolutely no interest in, and while she’s not picky she has a peculiar habit of going after men who previously have shown interest in Buffy, as both a way to feel closer to Buffy and to feel like she is Buffy, which fuels her own self hate and jealousy because she’s assigning herself the role of “Buffy’s lesser substitute.”

• Blessed Day: 13th of October, the day she came to Sunnydale for the first time and met Buffy.
• Patron Pthumerian: Bausphomette
• Blood Power Manifestation:
Bloodlust: Faith gains power from combat, specifically from killing something, be it monster and human. If she were to go full feral and try feeding on the blood of whatever she kills, she’ll find it invigorates her and increases her slayer enhancements tenfold. She’ll feel an instinctual need to hunt monsters to feed this bloodlust.
Beserker Rage: Similarly, Faith also gains power from her anger, and the stronger and more volatile her feelings are, the stronger she can get. As her corruption rises, her anger will as well, and as her anger rises, her power raises and she becomes more and more in tune with the predatory animal that the Slayer was designed to be.
